Half of Latvia's population has had at least one Covid jab

The proportion of the Latvian population which has received at least one vaccination dose against Covid-19 has exceeded the 50% level, according to the latest information compiled by the National Health Service (NVD), LETA reported October 7.

943,244 persons have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia, corresponding to 50.11% of Latvia's population, using the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP) data on the estimated population in the country at the beginning of July 2021.

Meanwhile, a vaccination course has been completed by 876,523 people, representing 46.57% of the total population of Latvia.

Dividing into different age groups, by Wednesday 54.51% of the population of Latvia over 18 have completed the vaccination process. This estimation used CSP's population data from April.  53.03% of Latvia's population over 12 years of age have begun the vaccination course. 

On Wednesday, 6,468 people got a jab against Covid-19. 2,543 people received the first shot, 2,132 got the second, while 1,772 got the vaccine produced by a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson (J & J) that needs only one dose. Another 21 people received a third 'booster' shot.
