On Friday, March 26, Latvia recorded 638 new cases of Covid-19, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic passed the 100,000 mark as a result and now stands at 100,114.

Of 17,881 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, 3.6% were positive, virtually the same as the 3.5% rate the day before. 4% is regarded as the threshold at which the virus is spreading in an uncontrolled manner.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose very slightly from 377.5 Thursday to 377.8 Friday. Anything over 200 is classed as a "very high risk" pandemic situation under the government's four-stage "traffic light" system.

Three more deaths were also confirmed March 26. One victim was aged 60-69, one was aged 80-89 and one was aged 90-99.

A total of 1,867 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic according to official statistics.

On March 25, 4,440 people received a first dose of vaccine and 672 received a second dose. So far 100,928 people have received a first dose and 20,920 both doses.

Meanwhile on March 26 Lithuania added 816 new cases while Estonia recorded another day with over a thousand cases, the figure being 1,151.
