Stay within your contact bubble, urges chief of Latvian emergency team

The situation in the health sector due to the spread of Covid-19 has improved but still difficult, said Liene Cipule, head of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), in an interview on Latvian Television December 8.

Cipule stressed the importance of continuing vaccination against the virus, as well as getting the boosters. She also said that it is still recommended to stay within one's 'bubble' and limit contacts outside it.

"Limiting social and physical contacts is what should be continued, staying more in bubbles and meeting all the issued recommendations. Even if restrictions on vaccinated individuals are relaxed, precautionary measures should be continued on an individual basis," Cipule said.

She said that currently 50-60 Covid-19 patients are being admitted to hospitals daily by the NMPD.

Cipule said that individual risks of infection are currently increasing with the cold weather as people are looking for shelter indoors: in stations, terminals, shops, and the like. Risks are also increased during the holiday season as people meet more often, so she called on individual responsibility no matter what the government regulations are.
