Specially tailored vaccines for the new autumn season and the Omicron type are expected to be available in September.
“We move into vaccination against Covid-19 on the principle of one, seasonal booster. The best example is vaccination against influenza, which we encourage certain population groups to do annually before the illness spreads. So a similar principle is also recommended,” said family doctor Ainis Dzalbs, member of the State Council of Immunization.
Currently, immunologists and doctors are encouraging vaccination in the population over 60 years, people with chronic illnesses and other risk groups who cannot wait for September and the modified vaccines. These will also be optional but recommended for all those who received the last shot against Covid more than half a year ago.
“A person who has made a decision that he wants to vaccinate can go to their family doctor. An electronic recording on manavakcina.lv is still provided, where a convenient vaccination institution and vaccination times can be chosen. It can also be done at the medical establishment,” said Līga Gaigala, lead expert at the National Health Service (NVD).
After vaccination, people will receive a new certificate that will be useful for travel if requested in another country. In Latvia, employers have the right to request vaccination if there is a high risk of Covid-19 spreading in the workplace.
