New calendar of Latvian worldwide events launched

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The Latvian Institute, the government-backed agency responsible for promoting Latvia's name internationally, has launched a new feature on its website to keep track of the many Latvia-related events happening all around the world.

It looks like being a useful resource, as long as it is regularly updated, and is available in several different languages with various search and personalization options.

You can try it out at the Latvian Institute website, though it still has the status of a pilot project and there appear to still be some glitches, such as events with English-language titles but only Latvian-language information.

At the moment there is information about 170 events in 27 different countries, but it is hoped that users will adopt the platform to upload information about their own events too, to provide a free resource for all.

The project is produced in cooperation with events platform kurp.es.

Commenting on the launch of the resource, Latvian Institute director Vita Timermane-Moora said:

“This will be useful both for Latvian residents who can connect with a foreign audience every day and Latvians who for various reasons live abroad, as well as Latvia's friends and cooperation partners overseas. We are truly grateful for the overwhelming response we've had, which shows that such a platform has been greatly needed."

A video demonstrating how to use the site has been produced (below) though it is in Latvian only.
