A total of 13,147 Russian citizens have registered for the language exam so far, while 11,301 have taken it.
More than 6,500 persons have applied for repeated examination which will take place between September 4 and November 30, in five Latvian cities – Rīga, Liepāja, Rēzekne, Daugavpils, and Ventspils.
According to the VISC, the results are deteriorating, which means that those who were more convinced of their knowledge applied first. In the last group, as many as 80% fell through.
VISC said that overall the best results were in the reading part, where the average score is 73%, 71% in the listening part, and 67% in the speaking part. The most difficult part is writing, where the average score is 36% (for those who failed the test the first time). The overall average score in the writing portion is 56%.
The test is passed if the evaluation in each skill is not less than 60% of the maximum score.
Level A2 at which the exam is taken requires a person to be able to communicate in simple sentences on topics related to everyday situations or personal activity, to read and understand simple texts, to complete standard documents (e.g. forms, invoices, receipts), to write short texts of personal content, to perceive and understand clear-spoken simple texts at a natural pace.
