Derelict building collapses in Rīga

On Monday, March 18, a building in an emergency condition collapsed at Pētersalas Street 4 in Rīga, therefore tram route 5 to Sarkandaugava was suspended for several hours.

The tram route 5 to Sarkandaugava had been suspended because the ruins of the collapsed house covered the track. Rīgas Satiksme reported that traffic was renewed after 22:00 on Monday.

Currently, tram route 5 runs between Iļģuciems-Ausekļa Street-Iļģuciems.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), at 17:11 the service received information that structures were detaching from an unmanaged building in Pētersalas Street in Riga, posing a danger.

On arrival at the scene, firefighters found that the external wall of a two-storey building had collapsed, endangering nearby cars. Firefighters inspected and cordoned off the area. The building had been damaged in a fire in 2021 and stood empty since.

Together with the State Police, the evacuation of the endangered cars is being addressed. The Riga Municipality has been informed about the incident.

The VUGD has no information that there is any danger to people. The service continues its work at the scene.
