Twenty children suffered injuries Sunday evening as the bus they were in veered off Latvia's Tallinn Highway and overturned, reported LETA.

There were 22 children and four adults in the bus, the State Police said.

The accident occurred after an automobile pulled out of the oncoming traffic and into the lane the bus was traveling in. The bus driver tried to avoid hitting the automobile head-on, and the bus swerved off the road.

Several ambulances, Fire and Rescue Service and the police were called to the scene. Paramedics decided that all twenty children should be hospitalized, although none had suffered serious injuries - mostly bruises and scratches.

On Sunday two persons died in traffic accidents - a two-year-old girl and a woman born in 1945, as the State Police told LETA. The police urge drivers to exercise caution and drive according to weather and road conditions.

Daiga Rauba, a Children's Clinical Hospital representative, told Latvian Radio 4 Monday that only three of the children are still being kept in the hospital and that their condition is stable.
