At 19:41 on March 23, VUGD was informed that there was a fire in a hangar on Maskavas Street. On arrival at the scene, rescuers found one of two adjoined hangars burning near the railway.
Fire-fighting works are hampered by the fact that the nearest water-collection site is a kilometer away. Therefore, 36 firefighters with eight road tankers had to work at the site of the event, as well as a Latvian railway fire train.
The VUGD said on Twitter that personnel off-duty had to be called in to ensure the necessary number of firefighters ready for other calls in Rīga.
At 22:49 the fire was localized. 870 square meters of hangar area burned, including five cars.
Firefighters managed to keep the second hangar safe, VUGD said.
