No people have been found in the ruins of the uninhabited building in Rīga that collapsed on Thursday, March 30, Igors Boruns, representative of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), told Latvian Television on March 31.

He said that the rescuers of VUGD finished work at the site at around 1:30 at night. Rescuers found 11 cars under the structures of the collapsed building. All of them have been checked and no humans or animals have been found in them, Boruns said. Nor are victims found elsewhere in the rubble.

According to the representative of VUGD, since the accident occurred in the center of Rīga, near the railway station, where it is relatively loud, the VUGD in cooperation with police forces organized moments of silence, including by stopping transport traffic to ensure that there was nobody in the rubble.

The VUGD evacuated 12 people from an adjacent home.

The police have started criminal proceedings about what happened.
