Siren test shows issues with six systems

On Wednesday, May 31, 152 of the 158 alarm sirens tested worked without interruption, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported.

Six alarm sirens had technical problems. Six more sirens were not checked because they are currently in repair. A total of 164 alarm sirens have been installed in Latvia.

In the previous alarm siren test, November 22, 2022, two of the tested 164 alarm sirens were not working.

In Rīga and the Rīga region, 52 out of 55 sirens worked uninterrupted, 26 out of 29 in Kurzeme, 19 out of 23 in Zemgale, 25 out of 29 in Latgale, and 26 out of 28 in Vidzeme.

The alarms serve the purpose of warning residents about a natural or technogenic disaster in case one occurs.
