Bunkus family announces €500,000 reward in rush hour murder case

Take note – story published 5 years ago

The family of the murdered insolvency administrator Mārtiņš Bunkus has issued an international €500,000 reward for leads in the rush hour murder orchestrated on May 30, 2018.

In an announcement on a website set up specifically for the purpose, the Bunkus family asked for providing any information regarding the identities of orderers, executors and performers of the murder of the lawyer, who was shot in broad daylight near the main military cemetery in Rīga.

Presumably he was shot from a tarp-covered pickup truck that was seen in the vicinity and was later found burning not far from the scene of the crime. His professional activity appears to be the mostly likely motive for the killing, and investigation is under way.

The Bunkus family have criticized the slow pace of the investigation, but on December 4 Latvia's police chief Ints Ķuzis told the press that there's already enough evidence in the case.

Contract hits are rare in Latvia. In the period from 2001 to 2015, there have been 55.
