Exit exam results are in

This year's high school exit exam results are in, with the results at English and Latvian better than last year and people faring far worse in history and maths, the National Center for Education told the press Thursday.

The results were slightly worse than last year in chemistry and Russian as well. The results were better at State Gymnasiums. A total 35 pupils scored under the 5% mark in Latvian, and the number was 199 for the maths test. The general results will be published July 1 with an analysis following in September.

A total of 19,427 exam certificates to high school graduates were issued Thursday.

Latvia has compulsory exams in the Latvian language, maths and one foreign language. 

235 pupils used the chance to forgo the state exam in foreign languages with an internationally accepted test like IELTS or TOEFL.
