Midsummer weather: Little rain, except in Latgale

Take note – story published 5 years ago

"It's raining as if it's Midsummer!" a Latvian saying goes. Nevertheless, this year people celebrating the most Latvian of holidays can be without fear of spending a night by the bonfire - there'll be little rain, except possibly for the eastern region of Latvia, known as Latgale, reports LSM's weather man Toms Bricis.

"After yesterday's thunderstorms, the idea of spending Midsummer in the open air might sound scary. But there's no cause for worry, as the largest rain clouds have already gone," said Bricis.

"There'll be rain here and there during the Līgo day [June 23], but the night to Jāņi [June 24] will, in general, be dry," he said.

Nevertheless, a cyclone forming above Russia and Belarus is likely to bring rain to Latvia's eastern reaches on the wee hours and the morning of June 24.

After the Midsummer weekend, hot weather is to return. Līgo!
