Nine died from cold in last two weeks

In the last two weeks Latvia's State Forensic Medicine Center has seen nine people who have died from hypothermia, reported LETA on November 19. 

A total of five men and four women have died from the cold, including an 89-year-old woman who died in the Dobele hospital. A total of three people have died after being hospitalized for hypothermia.

A man aged about 30 was found dead on the streets of Rīga with alcohol in his blood.

In all 20 people have frozen to death since September 1, with many cases linked to alcohol use.

While a 73-year-old woman was found at the Uzvaras park in Rīga with a blood alcohol content of 0.234, the highest recorded among victims of the cold. 

People are advised to report to emergency services about others who appear to be in danger from the cold.
