Police, rescue crews and members of the public had engaged in a search for the missing girl over three days. Their efforts produced a result, but unfortunately not the desired one.
A body was found in the River Gauja between Sigulda, where she was last seen, and the village of Gauja some 10 kilometers further downstream at around 12:30 Tuesday, State Police said.
The exact cause of death will be ascertained in an autopsy, police said. Further details of the circumstances leading up to the fatality are expected to be explained later.
Police thanked those who had helped in the search and expressed their condolences to the relatives of the deceased girl.
