On the night of September 2, the State police embarked on a nearly hour-long chase of a drunk driver who was caught only after his tires were shot by the police, the State Police announced on Friday.

Police officers noticed a car approaching with the headlights on full beam. As the car didn't switch to low beam when the police car approached, the police decided to stop the Mercedes-Benz car.

Noticing that he's followed by the police, the driver tried to run away. The chase lasted for almost an hour, and additional crews were called to aid.

As the chase progressed, the driver repeatedly didn't comply with orders to stop the vehicle, so the policemen fired rounds, shooting both of the rear wheels of the car.

The driver, a 1986-born man, had been driving under the influence and without a licence. A breathalyzer test showed 2.6 promiles of alcohol in his breath.

Criminal proceedings for drunk driving were started, and he'll carry further responsibility for running away from the police.
