Air temperatures on Thursday will reach +19 to +24 C, but the warmest weather this week is expected on Friday, with +22 C to +27 C.
Friday will become the warmest September 22, and it will also be the latest date in Latvia's history when the temperature reached the 27-degree mark so late in the autumn. Friday will be sunny but with gusty southeast winds.
The night to Saturday will be summery with the minimum temperature at +14 C to +17 C, but in the western and central parts of the country, a cloud of rain and storms will appear.
On Saturday, it won't get warmer than +15 C to +17 C in Kurzeme, but elsewhere temperatures will reach +19 C to +24 C, with heavy rain and thunderstorms in places.
Sunday and early in the new week, temperatures will be mostly within +16 C to +21 C in the afternoons, which is still significantly warmer than the climate norm.
Temperatures will rise again from the middle of next week and often exceed the 20-degree mark, with new heat records expected again.
This September is likely to become the warmest since meteorological observations are carried out in Latvia. Previously, the warmest was September 1934, with an average temperature of 15.2 degrees. This year, September's average temperature so far is 15.6 degrees. The climate norm, or average for the last three decades (1991-2020), is 12.3 degrees.
