Storm alert for Wednesday night in Latvia

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center forecasts a storm at night from Wednesday to Thursday. Heavy snowfall is expected, and ice formation is also possible. In western and central areas, winds could reach a force 20-24 meters per second, while in coastal areas 25-28 meters per second.

In such weather conditions, there may be power disruptions, power distribution company AS “Sadales Tikls” will operate in a state of increased readiness and calls on citizens not to forget about personal safety and to be careful in the vicinity of overhead lines and other power supply facilities.

Along the coast, winds could settle in the morning of November 23, while in the central and western districts only on Thursday evening.

As a result of the strong wind, snow weight and ice, trees and branches can break, damaging power lines. 

The “Sadales Tikls” warns that in situations of more complex and widespread damage, it may take longer to repair them.

In case of electricity supply disruptions, residents are invited to follow up on the current situation in the electricity grid in the www.sadalestikls.lv available digital disconnection map, where information regarding the already registered electrical network damage has been compiled. Residents are also invited to report the damage on the website. 

On the other hand, if you are witnessing damage that could be life-threatening – for example, a broken sparking wire, you should not approach the scene, but call 112 or the Sadales Tikls” free phone 8404 immediately.
