Christmas Day will be windy along the Lavian coast

Anyone planning in a Christmas Day stroll along the coast might be in for more than they expected with very strong winds expected in coastal district, acording to the latest forecasts from the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LVĢMC).

On Monday, wind gusts could reach 20-23 meters per second in coastal areas. During the day, the weather will remain mostly cloudy and precipitation is expected in most places, falling as snow, sleet and rain.

A moderate to moderately strong west, southwest wind will blow, reaching 15-17 meters per second in gusts, but increasing to 20-23 meters per second on the coast. The air will warm up to from +1 to +6 degrees Celsius.

In Riga, the sky will be mostly covered with clouds, and it will rain for a while. A moderate westerly or south-westerly wind will blow, and the maximum air temperature will rise to +4 Celsius.

A yellow alert (potential danger) is in place for high water levels in the west of the country and for snow in the east of the country.
