Downpour expected Tuesday, rest of week fairly pleasant

The weather week in Latvia will be a mixed bag over coming days, with periods of pleasantness offset by some very heavy rain, according to forecasters.

Monday will be sunny but overnight a new cyclonic weather system is expected that will bring very heavy rain across the whole country on Tuesday. Precipitation in many parts of Kurzeme and in the central part of the country will reach 20-30 liters per square meter, and in places in Northern Kurzeme may even exceed 30 liters per square meter, equivalent to about half the monthly norm in a single day. Rainfall will be less in the extreme east of Latvia.

Together with the rain, Tuesday will have temperatures of +15 Celsius to + 19 C degrees across most of the country, with eastern Vidzeme and Latgale slightly warmer on +20 C to + 22 C.

Wednesday should bring respite from the downpour with the return of sunnier and warmer weather. This will remain the trend for the rest of the week, though there will be some localized rain showers throughout. The air temperature will be in the range +18 C to + 23 C during the day and +8 C to + 13 C at night. Coastal districts will be one or two degrees warmer.

The weekend will be mostly sunny and temperatures will rise to +20 C to + 25 C.
