From extremely warm to very cold weather this week in Latvia

At the beginning of the week, the weather will be warm in Latvia, but the cold will intensify over the weekend, reaching temperatures around -20 C, according to forecasts.

New heat records are yet to be expected at night from Monday to Tuesday, when in most parts of the country, in the middle of the night, air temperatures will be between +6 C to +9 C, so a new January 2 and 3 heat record will be reached. Rains and strong south-west, west winds are also expected at night, coastal around 20 meters per second, the rest of the country mainly 13-18 meters per second.

The wind will turn from the northwest on Tuesday, and in the afternoon wet snow and snow will fall in many places, but temperatures will remain a little above zero.

On Wednesday and Thursday it will get cooler – temperatures will be within -4 C to +2 C, with snow and wet snow.

A much colder air will flow into Latvia over the weekend from the north. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning, air temperatures will drop to -20 C in many places.

Further forecasts show that the cold will get milder next week and a small thaw is likely to come back.
