Gray week ahead but fingers crossed for independence day

Take note – story published 6 years ago

This week will be rather gray and damp, but not too cold, according to forecasters.

Monday will see some light rain, but gentle winds and air temperatures from +3 to +7 degrees Celsius.

Riga will be overcast with patches of mist clearing slowly through the day. Atmospheric pressure will gradually climb.

Eastern parts of the country may get brief periods of sleet.

Tuesday will bring more of the same across the country, though there may be a brief period of clear skies on Tuesday night.

But the situation will begin to change on Wednesday with the arrival of a new low-pressure system bringing rain and stronger winds with it. By way of compensation, temperatures will rise and may touch 9 C during the day.

Thursday will see atmospheric pressure building again, resulting in clearer skies but colder temperatures, particularly at night when -6 C is possible, though coastal areas will be considerably milder.

Exactly what weather will greet Latvia's independence day on November 18 is still in the balance but most likely it too will be rather grey and slightly damp.
