Mild but wet and gusty week ahead

The second week of 2023 will bring a thaw, plenty of precipitation and a gusty southerly wind according to the latest forecasts. are expected in Latvia, forecasters predict.

It is expected that the coldest day of the new week will be Monday, when the air temperature will be in the range +2 Celsius to -3 Celsius in most of the temperature but as low as -6 C in the east of the country. Snow, a light blizzard and freezing rain are expected in many places.

Temperatures could remain sub-zero in eastern regions in the middle of the week, but in other places the air will warm up to as much as +5 C degrees and the mild conditions will extend across the whole country in the second half of the week.

Snowfall in east and central districts, plus sleet and rain and constantly varying temperatures could again make roads very slippery and drivers are advised to be cautious.

Throughout the week, the wind will blow mainly from the south, and will often be gusty, particularly in coastal districts where it may exceed 20 meters per second.
