Acclaimed ceramicist has solo exhibition in Rīga

From August 18, the "Rīga Art Space" (Rīgas Mākslas telpa) gallery will host a solo exhibition named "Terra" by artist Sanita Ābelīte, which will open the program of the 4th Latvian Ceramics Biennale, representatives of the exhibition hall have announced.

"Sanita Ābelīte's personal exhibition "Terra" is a proof of respect, love and trust for the material with which she has been associated for more than twenty years," the exhibition description explains.

"During the creative process, I let thoughts and ideas flow freely, the process is intuitive, and I only have partial control over what is happening," says the artist herself.

The works displayed in the exhibition were created between 2020 and 2022. The exhibited items are made of various ceramics materials and using various different techniques.

Some works of art were created at the Lode brick factory, Kuldīga Arts and Humanities Secondary School, as well as in collaboration with other ceramicists, but most of the works of art were created and fired in Sanita Ābelīte's own workshop, which turns 20 this year.

Sanita Abelīte was born in 1978 in Kuldīga. In 2004, she graduated from the Liepāja Secondary School of Applied Arts and in 2010 she obtained a master's degree in arts at the Department of Ceramics of the Latvian Academy of Arts. Since 2006, she has held several personal exhibitions, participated in symposia, residencies and group exhibitions in many Latvian cities, as well as in Denmark, Belarus, Italy, Cyprus, China and other places.
