Three Exhibitions for the Weekend in Latvia

For this weekend, we offer a selection of three exhibits of different styles for you to view.

Tōkaidō Road

From February 17 to May 5, an exhibition Tōkaidō Road will be displayed at the Art Museum 'Riga Bourse' (Doma laukums 6).

The exhibition will showcase 10 landscapes from the Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige and his apprentice Utagawa Hiroshige II. Nowadays, Hiroshige is viewed as one of the last great masters of the Japanese traditional ukiyo-e, and his oeuvre has influenced numerous European and American artists.

The collection has six ukiyo-e prints by Utagawa Hiroshige from various 53 Stations of Tōkaidō series. This series made Hiroshige one of the best ukiyo-e landscape artists.

The opening hours of Rīga Bourse are Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00, Fridays 10:00 to 20:00.

All's Good Between Us

Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) invites viewers to the exhibition and public program "All’s Good Between Us".

"All’s Good Between Us" brings gender and queer discourses into interaction with socio-political contexts in society, identifying cracks between identities, minorities, and different generations. Through the interpretations of various generations of artists, researchers, and curators, the project invites to think beyond the idea of identity as something permanent and stable, addressing stigma and fear of otherness, says the exhibtion's description.

The exhibit will be open between February 15 and March 31, Wednesday to Friday 14:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 12:00 to 17:00.

The Botanist and the Unicorn

This weekend is the final chance to visit Latvian artist Roberts Koļcovs' personal exhibit "The Botanist and the Unicorn" on the Latvian National Art Museum 4th floor. The exhibition promises a topic of the inseparable relation between nature and humans, with a mythological dimension added.

The exhibition's last day of display is February 18. Opening hours of the Latvian National Museum of Art (Jaņa Rozentāla Square 1) are available on the website.
