The exhibition, titled 'Portraits of the War' will feature of pictures taken by photographers of the National Guard of Ukraine and drawings done by children from the Ukrainian Center “Perlina” in Rīga.
The exhibiton will open on February 22 at 18:30 at Maza Pils iela 2 and is supported by the Polonsky Family Foundation together with Roman Catholic Archbishop of Rīga, Zbigņevs Stankevičs .
"This exhibition will highlight the bravery by Ukrainian solders whose faces we don’t see often and who quite often become just numbers on the news. As well as show the drawings and letters done by Ukrainian children in the center “Perlina” that decided to send their works and letters to the solders on the front linens in order to show them support and love," say the organizers.
At the opening of the exhibition it will also be possible to watch an award winning documentary “Eastern Front” by Ukrainian film director Vitalij Manskij, telling the story of first Ukrainian volunteers on the front lines after Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine.
Entrance to the event is free, but it will be possible to make dontions to an initiative providing a 10-day rehabilitation camp in Rīga for 12 children from Ukraine.
Many of these children experience daily bombing, which has taken a toll on their health and it is hoped that the camp will help alleviate some of the anxiety and stress of life under such conditions.
On February 24 at 11:00 a second part of photo exhibition open at the Museum of Occupation of Latvia featuring more photos and a bigger display.
