Latvian photographer wins top professional award

Latvian photographer Alnis Stakle has won a prestigious international award, LSM's Culture department reports.

His series of image collages titled "Mellow Apocalypse" has won the Sony World Photography Awards competition in the Creative professional category. The work "Mellow Apocalypse" submitted by Stakle is a series of image collages made of visual materials from publicly available sources - museums, scientific institutions and open access image repositories, said Ieva Līcīte, the brand's communications and public relations manager in the Baltics.

Speaking about the victory, Alnis Stakle said: "I am very surprised and happy to be one of the winners of the Sony World Photography Awards. This is a great recognition and encouragement for me as a photographer and teacher of photography."

Alnis Stakle is a professional Latvian photographer and lecturer at Riga Stradins University. His works have been widely exhibited, including at the Latvian Museum of Photography, the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Modern Art Oxford Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the photographs have been published in the British Journal of Photography, Leica Fotografie International and other publications.
