These cities had prepared the "best cultural and social resilience action plans aimed at strengthening their communities and connecting residents through culture and creativity", a statement from the Interreg Baltic said. The project is co-financed by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027.
According to the program representatives, the title will facilitate cross-sectoral and inter-generational cooperation, communication, and joint activities with Estonian villages, thus opening up opportunities for international networking as a safe basis for a more active community in Rūjiena.
Madara Seile, Head of cultural projects of the Valmiera Municipality Cultural Administration, stresses: "The title will provide a great opportunity for Rujiena to create a more favorable environment for community activities, as well as to work more successfully on strengthening social resilience, for example by providing opportunities for people to meet. It is also important that cross-sectoral cooperation will be implemented, a new network of foreign cooperation partners has been established and previous cooperation with Estonia in the field of culture has been improved.”
