The aim of the Balts’ Award is to recognize excellence and achievement related to individual contributions and accomplishments in promotion of Latvian-Lithuanian and Lithuanian-Latvian translations and teaching as well as enhancing the use of the Latvian and Lithuanian languages, research on Latvian and Lithuanian cultural and historic heritage, as well as journalism on Latvian and Lithuanian history, culture and tourism.
Both individuals and institutions can be nominated for the Award.
The deadline by which to submit nominations is 30 June 2023.
The decision on the winner will be made by the Jury, which consists of Latvian and Lithuanian language, literature, and history experts, as well as representatives from both Foreign Ministries. The Award will be presented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Lithuania in a ceremony to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania in the Autumn 2023.
The Balts’ Award of 3,000 euros is annual, and equal contributions are made by both Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Lithuania. The first Balts’ Award was symbolically presented in 2018 when Latvia and Lithuania celebrated their Centenaries. The Award has been previously granted to Laimutė Balodė (2018), Alvydas Butkus (2019), Alberts Sarkanis (2020), Regina Kvašyte (2021) and Dace Meiere (2022).
