'Miķeļi' autumn harvest festival events in Rīga

Miķeļi or Miķeļdiena is the Latvian ethnic harvest festival, taking place around the autumn equinox. This weekend, several Miķeļi events will be held in the capital city Rīga.

During the weekend, the traditional Miķeļi fair will take place in Doma Square, while in Mežaparks, Grīziņkalns and Imanta, every interested person will be able to engage in various creative workshops, get acquainted with the traditions of autumn festivities and enjoy concerts, said the Rīga City Council.

Miķeļi fair at Dome Square

The Miķeļi fair will take place on Saturday, September 23, during which time in Dome Square from 09:00 to 17:00, everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy rich autumnal harvest, craftsmanship, and a diverse cultural program. 

From 10:00 to 16:00 the wind orchestra "Fanfara", the children's dance collective “Teiksmiņa,” the folk dance ensemble “Teiksma”, the vocal band “Fortūna,” the dance ensemble “Dancītis,” the orchestra “Riga,” the youth and middle-generation dance collective “Dejotprieks,” the folklore group “Kokle,” the dance ensemble “Vilkači,” the middle generation and seniors dance folk group "Oglīte", and the band "Laimas muzykanti". 

Mežaparks

On September 23, everyone is invited to Mežaparks from 12:00 to 15:00 where various creative workshops, activities, master classes, and concerts, will take place. 

Grīziņkalns Park

On September 23, the traditions of Miķeļdiena will also be celebrated in Grīziņkalns, with Latvian folk dances and games, harvest festivities, Livonian cultural heritage, as well as a local producer fair.

Imanta

On Sunday, September 24, the autumn equinox will be celebrated in Imanta Culture and Recreation Center. Songs, dances and games will be organized for the whole family.
