Warm reception at Cannes for new Latvian animated film

May 22 saw the world premiere of the Latvian film "Stream" at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France.

"Stream" ("Straume" in Latvian) is the only animated feature competing in its particular festival competition and has been eagerly awaited following the cult success of director Gints Zilbalodis' first feature "Away" (2019) which he wrote and animated single-handed.

This time Zilbalodis has teamed up with producer Matīss Kaža and pictures posted online showed the audience giving it a standing ovation at the conclusion of the screening.

The film conjures up a visually gorgeous, poetic and post-apocalyptic world where animals of different species need to work together to survive.
