A selection of events for Latvia's centenary

Here's a selection of the most important events for celebrating the centenary of Latvia, as provided by the kurpes.lv event platform.

16th to 19th of November - festival of light Staro Rīga

There are 43 light objects exhibited every evening from 17:00 to 23:00. Attendees can take a look at the objects with their friends and family by just strolling through Riga. Meanwhile, as this is the centenary of Latvia, the event is going to be even grander and related to all things Latvian.

November 18th

18:00 Multimedial dance performance “Abas Malas”

Music, dance and modern artistic technologies are intertwined in order to create a unique story about Latvia. On a special 2000 square meter projection more than 450 ballet, contemprorary dance and traditional dance performers will show the story of Latvia in a new light.

18:45 Musical performance “18.11.” and speech of the president of Latvia

The basis of „18.11” consists of poetry and songs that are deeply rooted in the history of Latvia. It will be presented by diverse set of Latvians – sportsmen, artists, students and many more. The president will give his speech by the Monument of Freedom at 20:00.

20:10 Latvian centenary celebration at 11. novembra krastmala

20:10–21:00 concert “Two sides of Daugava”

21:00–21:02 singing of the Latvian anthem “Dievs, svētī Latviju!”

21:02–21:20 firework performance – the main character will be the Sun. It tells a story about the the time from the creation of Latvia to the contemporary times.

November 19th

18:30 First concert of the new centenary “In the name of love. 18+” next to the National Library of Latvia

18 beloved Latvian songs in a brand-new sound. Event features the best known Latvian musicians - Alise Joste, Cosmos, Instrumenti, Matīss Čudars, Reinis Sējāns, Renārs Kaupers u.c. mūziķi. Free entry.
