The ten actors and actresses were picked by a jury made up of casting director Lucinda Syson, Hungarian actor Dorka Gryllus, Swiss director Xavier Koller, Portuguese producer Pandora da Cunha Telles, and Swedish film critic and writer Jan Lumholdt.
Praising Vaska's performance in 'Mellow Mud', the jury commented: "She has just made her debut, and what a debut this is. We could compare with some classic predecessors, but we won't.
Elina's performance is all her own, subtle, contemplative and with a soulful glow. It is the power of the unspoken in a very pure form."
Earlier this year, 'Mellow Mud' won a Crystal Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival.
At the Shooting Star event in Berlin, held from February 10 to 13, the young movie stars will take part in a program of profile-raising workshops and meetings with film people and give interviews and photo shoots with the international media.
The other Shooting Stars this year are Italy’s Alessandro Borghi (“Don’t Be Bad”), Denmark’s Esben Smed (“Letters for Amina”), The Netherlands’ Hannah Hoekstra (“The Fury”), Sweden’s Karin Franz Korlof (“A Serious Game”), Germany’s Louis Hofmann (“Alone in Berlin”), Slovenia’s Marusa Majer (“Ivan”), Romania’s Tudor Aaron Istodor (“The Fixer”), Portugal’s Victoria Guerra (“Cosmos”), and Poland’s Zofia Wichlacz, who appears in her country’s Oscar entry “Afterimage.”
