On November 12 the 2018 National Film Award ceremony was held, with Ināra Kolmane's Bille named the best feature film.

Bille is a coming-of-age story based on a series of novels by Nobel-prize nominee Vizma Belševica, chronicling the childhood of the author, who was a child in the heyday of interwar Latvia.

Directed by Ināra Kolmane, it stars Rūta Kronberga, Elīna Vāne, and Artūrs Skrastiņš among others.

Elita Kļaviņa was named best actress for her performance in Rīga. Dublis 1 and Vilis Daudziņš was named best actor for his performance in Foam at the Mouth.

The awards were handed by a jury comprised of both locally and internationally known film people born in Latvia.

There were a total of 58 submissions, and a bumper crop of state-funded centenary films made the competition particularly fierce this year.

Last year, the award went to Chronicles of Melanie
