'Church night' will see 145 participants

Take note – story published 8 years ago

A total of 105 churches will participate in 'Church night' on June 5, with places of worship across the country throwing their doors open to the public in a move inspired by the popular 'Museum night' events of May.

40 churches in Riga will participate and as well as the chance to see the interiors and hidden places of the country's Christian real estate, many churches will feature special free concerts by a range of musicians from pop performances to operatic arias.

Things should get off to a memorable start just before 1800 when church bells will ring out across Riga.

The first 'Church night', which involves all three main Christian denominations in the country, took place last year and attracted around 20,000 visitors.

The idea originated in Austria a decade ago.

Details of the participating churches can be found at the the official website (in English) here.
