Classical conductors get Grammy nominations

Latvian classical conductors Andris Nelsons and Mariss Jansons have been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Orchestral Field category. Their orchestras will be running against each other for the prize, reported LETA on December 6.

Jansons has earned the Grammy nod for Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No.5 recorded with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Nelsons, meanwhile, has been shortlisted for "Shostakovich: Under Stalin's Shadow - Symphonies Nos. 5, 8 & 9", recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Earlier this year, Nelsons received a Grammy Award for "Shostakovich: Under Stalin's Shadow - Symphony No.10" which he recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
