Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU released the latest videos in the #mindpower series featuring Latvia’s founding literary couple Rainis and Aspazija – this week featuring Czech screen star and musician Marek Eben and Slovenian hip-hop artist Zlatko.

Marek Eben is a Czech actor, singer, composer, writer and TV host with a conservatory education in music and drama. He hosts a celebrity talk-show called ‘At the swimming pool’ with gentle intelligence and is also the spokesperson for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He sings in the folk group Eben Brothers, who have won Golden and Double Platinum Records in the Czech Republic. He has also written music for films and at least two dozen plays.

In this episode of #mindpower series, Marek Eben interprets Rainis’ poem “Yourself” from the poetry collection “Blue Evening’s Distant Vibrations” (1903), which was written while the poet was living in exile.

Zlatko (Zlatan Čordič) is a well-known Slovenian hip-hop artist. Zlatko has released seven music albums and is one of the most followed celebrities on social media in Slovenia. In his songs, he speaks about political and social issues and also highlights the importance of self-respect and respect for others. Although he talks about serious issues in his songs, the overall mood of his music is very positive. He is extremely popular among the young audience and frequently gets invited to schools.

In the 5th episode of the #mindpower, Zlatko and Aspazija (played by Eva Ikstena-Strapcāne) interpret the poem “My Thoughts” from Aspazija’s poetry collection “Twilight of the Soul” (1904). In this collection, she talks philosophically about such oppositions as death vs. life, present vs. past, ideal vs. reality and about the loneliness of the creative mind.
