Friday morning, Latvian Radio youth station Pieci unveiled Carnival Youth as the first winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.

In the upcoming weeks, nine other European artists with cross border success will be announced as winners of the 2016 EBBA.

The winners will take the stage at the Dutch city of Groningen on January 13 to receive the award and show off their chops at the award ceremony. The event will be televised with around 10m viewers.

The award announcement called them a band with a sound that could be placed 'somewhere between Bombay Bicycle Club and Arcade Fire'.

In 2014 their ‘No Clouds Allowed’ won a prize for best debut album in Latvia.

Below is the strapping young lads' appearance on Radio Pieci.

And here's a hit song of theirs, titled 'Never Have Enough'.
