Unlike the Eurovision Choir of the Year, which was held in Rīga in 2017, there were two rounds in this year's competition in Gothenburg. In the first round, all ten choirs had to perform a choral piece lasting no more than four minutes. The judges then chose three choirs to participate in the second round.
The winning choir was awarded not only with a trophy but also an opportunity to attend the World Choir Games in Belgium in 2020.
