Latvian movie 'Janvāris' premieres at Tribeca film festival

On June 10, the premiere of Viesturs Kairišs's new feature film Janvāris ("January") was held at the legendary Tribeca Film Festival in New York, USA.

According to the film's representatives, the premiere was attended by director Viesturs Kairišs, film producers from Mistrus Media Inese Boka-Grūbe and Gints Grūbe, actors and other members of the crew.

The film is participating in the international film competition at the Tribeca Film Festival and has already attracted several reviews, including from renowned industry publication Variety.

The story of the feature film "January" is about the political events of January 1991 in Rīga and how even those who did not consider themselves politicially active were drawn into those events. 

The movie "January" is a co-production of Latvia, Poland and Lithuania, produced by the Latvian film studio "Mistrus Media" in co-production with the Polish company "Staron Film" and the Lithuanian company "ArtBox".

This year, Signe Baumane's animated film "My Marriage Project" is also competing at the Tribeca festival.

The premiere of the movie in Latvia is planned for this Fall.
