May 4 holiday event guide in Rīga

On May 4, the day of the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia, Rīga will offer many cultural events throughout the city, according to information by Rīga City Council.   

The city is gradually acquiring a festive design with flags, posters, and stands, as well as environmental design objects "Liesma" at the national library and "Brīvības karogs" on the intersection of Aspazijas Boulevard and 13. janvāra Street.

The annual folk costume parade will take place in person this year after two years in digital format. The folk costume gathering will take place in Rātslaukums and move to the Freedom Monument. Post-folklore bands Iļģi and Rikši, as well as Katrīna Dimanta and a folk dance group, will perform in Rātslaukums.

At the culture center Hanzas persons, a dance performance 'Vilkaču mantiniece' (the Heiress of Werewolves) will be staged.

A diverse musical program will also sound in the capital: at the VEF,  Ziemeļblāzma culture center, Small Guild, and St. Peter's Church. 

In the evening, a concert "Idejas vārdā" (In the name of an idea) will take place by the Congress Hall, a place that has now become important to thousands of Ukrainians as it houses a support center. Several bands and musicians will perform.
