Take note – story published 2 years ago

Before the Latvian traditional Midsummer festival, Jāņi, the capital city Rīga is setting the mood with various pop-up events.

From June 18 to 22, the Retro tram will become a musical platform and travel through most of Rīga's neighborhoods.  Sunny Groove Dixie band, the Quintet “Acumirklis”, “Juglas orķestris” and “Pārmaiņu mūzikas kvartets” will travel and play in the Retro tram.

Midsummer songs will be heard on the afternoon of June 21 from the balcony of the Latvian Radio building in Old Town, and from the balcony of the Rātsnams on the evening of June 22. On the evening of June 22, concerts will also sound from the boats in the city canal.

An open-air exhibition of stylized Midsummer wreaths will be accessible from June 18 to 27 in the Park of the Cultural Palace “Ziemeļblāzma.”

The city will also be adorned with more than 1,200 festival flags made by artist Jānis Asaris.

The event program can be found on the website of Rīga City Council.
