The Latvian Radio Choir is showcasing some extraordinary culture for the Brussels arts community this weekend, reports the EU Presidency’s Cultural Program.

Under the artistic direction of conductor Sigvards Kļava the Choir will be performing a new live soundtrack to the historic film The Bear Slayer in Brussels Friday night, as the first part of Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU Cultural Program this weekend.

The Choir plans to breathe new life into the 1930’s film by Aleksandrs Rusteikis, based on the epic poem by Andrejs Pumpurs as a symbol of Latvian culture and heritage. The screening and concert are set to take place at 20:15 at Brussels’ Flagey Concert Hall, mixing together the film’s original soundtrack with contemporary vocal music and fragments of works by Latvian composers, accompanied by double bass player Kristaps Pētersons.

Also right there on Sunday the Radio Choir will be joining the BL!NDMAN saxophone quartet from Belgium for a collaborative concert juxtaposing contemporary and early music after already sharing a stage with them in Riga this February. This concert, featuring a new work commissioned for the choir and quartet from Jēkabs Nīmanis, also begins at 20:15.
