Three for the Lockdown Weekend in Latvia: cultural adventures

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Another weekend has arrived with tough restrictions still in place. The weather appears rather gloomy, so it might be tempting to stay indoors. Here are some ideas, outdoors and indoors, to spend your lockdown weekend responsibly.

Lockdown adventure

The Latvijas ekspedīcija (Expedition of Latvia) local tourism organization is offering 'lockdown adventure' routes with tasks until November 15. You can choose a route in the center of Rīga, the old town, or a cinema-related route through the center, Old town and the 'quiet center' (around Miera Street). You will be able to choose a starting point and time yourself, and the organizers will provide tasks at that time. It is recommended to have someone who speaks Latvian on your team, as the game is in Latvian.

The Youth School Song and Dance festival has been taking place since July, mostly in the virtual environment. On Saturday, November 6, the festival will conclude with events streamed on Latvian Television throughout the day, starting with choir concert, continuing with orchestra and ending with the grand parade which took place separately in each municipality this year. Tune in for a glimpse of the centuries-old legendary Latvian tradition.

Liepāja International Stars Festival replays

On November 5 and 6, the Great Amber concert hall is offering replay concerts from this summer's Liepāja International Stars Festival.

November 5 at 19:00 the Georgia jazz vocalist Liza Kereslidze and the Xylem Trio (Raimonds Petrauskis, Oskars Petrauskis Rihards Zaļupe) will perform Kancheli melodies composed for theatre performances and movies (program here).

November 6 at 19:00 the world-renowned tenor Aleksandrs Antoņenko in cooperation with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius will perform popular opera music (program here).

Both concerts will be available to watch at liepajassimfoniskais.lv and Liepāja Symphony Orchestra YouTube channel, where previous livestreams are also available.
