White night
The Europe-wide contemporary arts event known as "White Night" ("Baltā nakts" in Latvian) will be held Saturday night for the eleventh consecutive time. It is easily one of the most popular events in the Latvian capital.
This year's White Night program includes about 50 culture and art projects of different genres, including cinema, performances, exhibitions, music, and poetry. You're invited to visit all of them, free of charge.
Like experimental music? The Sound Forest musical festival has a special White Night program for you at the St. Savior's Anglican church.
Are you a reader? The Parnassius Mnemosyne program at the Kino Bize movie theater pairs up music, video and poetry in what will surely be a great couple of hours of not understanding Latvian.
Like plants? Talk to them at the National Library.
The only bad thing about the White Night is that you can't be at two places at once.
Poetry Days
On Thursday the annual Poetry Days began in Latvia. While most of the performances will be in Latvian, hence, will be uninteresting to foreigners, the Space Textures X event Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Goethe Institute features video poetry from Germany's Zebra festival.
While you're at it - the Poetry Days also have several readings of UK and US poets next week, so that's something to consider if you're up for some literary joy.
Baltic Sea Docs
The Baltic Sea Docs festival is ongoing with 13 screenings of documentaries subtitled in English to take place on the weekend at the K-Suns movie gallery. Read more about the festival here.
