Three for the Weekend: Snowy Season

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Now that the Latvian 'patriotic week' with independence celebration and remembrance days has passed and the ground is covered white, it is officially allowed to start waiting for the winter holiday season. Here are some ideas how.

Christmas market season

Holiday-themed markets and fairs will be opening across Latvia this and the next weekend. The main market in the Old Town will also return after two years' absence. On Sunday, November 27, 17:00, the big Christmas tree will be lit in Doma Square along with the opening of the market. A market will also be open both Saturday and Sunday in Mežaparks, and on Saturday at Kalnciema Square. Next weekend, Christmas markets will also be open in Tallinas Square, fon Stricka villa, VEF square, and many other locations and cities.

Ski season

If you're eager to get your snowboard and skis out, you can head in the Cēsis direction – to Ozolkalns or to the Olympic Center. Most ski slopes will open a little later, presumably, at the beginning of December.

Winter nights at the Zoo

From November 25 to January 8, the Rīga Zoo will open its doors to visitors during late evening hours (16:00 to 21:00; entrance until 19:30) to view animals that are more active in the dark and to take part in trivia and games.
