Urban open-air cinema cycle to begin next week in Latvia

The arts center Zuzeum, the cinema project “Kino Kults” and the US embassy in Latvia invite viewers to the Baltie plankumi (White spots) open-air cinema cycle, Zuzeum said in a release July 15.

The theme of the 2021 season — “Utopias and dystopias.” The cinema cycle will be unveiled on the evening of July 22 with the film “The Truman Show”, the arts center's representatives said.

“White spots” is a regular cinema cycle that has been taking place in the arts center “Zuzeum” since 2018. According to the organizers, the cycle aims to fill the white spots in the viewers' knowledge of cinema.

  • July 22 — “The Truman Show” (1998)
  • July 29 — “12 Monkeys” (1995)
  • August 5 — “Idiocracy” (2006)
  • August 12 —“A.I. Artificial Intelligence” (2001)
  • August 19 — “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015)
  • August 26 — “Gattaca” (1997)
  • September 2 — “Looper” (2012)
  • September 9 — “Blade Runner” (1982)

The venue is the art center's newly created courtyard, “Zuzeum: būvlaukums” (Lāčplēša Street 101). The entrance to outdoor sessions is free. Films are played in English. Viewers must have a valid Covid-19 certificate attesting to the fact of vaccination or having had Covid-19.
