A good year for tomatoes in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

It is a good year to be a tomato in Latvia, and an even better year to be a tomato grower in Latvia.

Elga Bražune, manager of the "Neslinko" horticultural concern, told Latvian Radio August 17 that several varieties of field tomatoes are enjoying a particularly productive growing season.

"I have never seen so productive and such big tomatoes in my life as we have in the field this year, and no care [is needed]," said the growing expert, mentioning the 'Siberian', 'Belarusian Country', and 'Hungarian Early' varieties as particular beneficiaries of a long, hot summer.

As previously reported by LSM, some 300 different varieties of tomatoes can currently be viewed at the tomato exhibition at the Latvian Nature Museum, which runs until August 21.
