"Cafeterias, restaurants, saloons and guesthouses will open their doors to one and all, as will farms and local residents who do not offer dining or accommodation services on a daily basis, but are prepared to open their homes and farms as cafés so as to treat guests to the special dishes of their families or their region," says publicity material.
Home Cafe Days also include various cultural programmes such as handicrafts, games, playing musical instruments, small concerts, dances, performances, and more, to give visitors a flavor of all Latvia's different districts and cultures.
Each of around 400 cafes will open for a couple of days only from July to September, allowing cafe-lovers to travel around the country and sample as many as possible. All participating cafes, with their opening dates, are featured on an online map: https://majaskafejnicas.lv/galamerki/
Visitors should note that as most of the cafes are not professional concerns on a day-to-day basis, payments can be made by cash only.
